What is UltraFiltration (UF)?

Ultrafiltration retains minerals in the water, while filtering out bacteria, viruses, and parasites. The UF membrane is very effective in reducing:

- rust
- sediment
- tanin
- chlorine taste and odor
- benzene
- crypto
- heavy metals
- bacteria; reduces algae, chloride, copper, lead, mercury; whereas it has no effect on chemicals and TDS.

If you have a high amount of particulate matter, a Reverse Osmosis membrane is suggested.

Do I Need Reverse Osmosis? (RO)

RO is a water purification technology that uses a semipermeable membrane to remove larger particles & an array of contaminants.

The main difference between Reverse Osmosis and the ultrafiltration membrane is pore size. UF pore size ranges from 0.01 to 0.1 microns, whereas the reverse osmosis membrane has a more fine pore size of 0.0001 microns. Thus the RO membrane could remove impurities that are much finer, such as TDS.

When water goes through the RO Membrane, leftover water hardness & contaminants that are too big to go through the UF & RO membrane will wash out through your drain line. (In the back of the water cooler, the system will connect to your kitchen drain for the wastewater.) The initial UF membrane is to help reduce the amount of Total Suspended Solids before the RO Treatment so less strain is put on the RO membrane.

Carbon Block Water Filter Cartridge
Water travels through a 5-micron solid carbon cartridge for removing volatile organic carbon compounds (VOC's), insecticides, pesticides and industrial solvents and traps particles larger than 5 microns including sediment, silt, sand, and dirt.

The SMART filter contains high-purity copper-zinc formulation that uses a basic process known as redox (oxidation/reduction) to remove chlorine, lead, mercury, iron, and hydrogen sulfide from water supplies.

The media inhibits bacteria growth (fungi, algae and mold) and reduces lime scale, mold, and fungi. throughout the entire unit. In fact, testing has shown that it reduces it up to 90%; thus eliminating the need for silver, commonly used in carbon-only filters. Silver is considered a pesticide by the EPA and, as such, must be registered with EPA.

Eagle Redox Alloy® media is completely safe and meets EPA and FDA standards for levels of zinc and copper in potable water, so the process is not toxic and does not cause any adverse side effects.

Redox media removes up to 98% of water-soluble cations (positively-charged ions) of lead, mercury, copper, nickel, chromium, and other dissolved metals.
